La investigación se centra en el aviturismo, segmento del turismo de naturaleza, el cual consiste en la observación de aves en sus hábitats naturales. Se busca conocer las características de este segmento en el municipio de San Francisco de Sales, Cundinamarca, las cuales permiten el desarrollo de esta actividad y la manera de cómo la misma puede contribuir al desarrollo local y fomentar oportunidades turísticas adecuadamente planificadas. El enfoque de la investigación fue descriptivo cualitativo, el cual se inició con una revisión bibliográfica para llevar a cabo la caracterización del municipio, agregado a la revisión de todas las especies de aves registradas hasta el 2023. Se realizaron entrevistas a la comunidad y prestadores de servicios turísticos, con el fin de conocer sobre la potencialidad del municipio en el avistamiento de aves. Se pudo concluir que el territorio cuenta con gran diversidad de especies de avifauna y con el interés de la comunidad para potenciar esta actividad en su territorio. No obstante, es necesario mejorar la infraestructura de los senderos, controlar la capacidad de carga, contratación de guías de turismo y temas relacionados con el aviturismo para una mayor competitividad a futuro.

The research focuses on birdwatching, a segment of nature tourism, which consists of bird watching in their natural habitats. It seeks to know the characteristics of this segment in the municipality of San Francisco de Sales, Cundinamarca, which allow the development of this activity and how it can contribute to local development and promote tourism opportunities properly planned. The research approach was qualitative descriptive, which began with a bibliographic review to carry out the characterization of the municipality, added to the review of all bird species recorded until 2023. Interviews were conducted with the community and tourism service providers in order to learn about the municipality's potential for bird watching. It was concluded that the territory has a great diversity of bird species and that the community is interested in promoting this activity in its territory. However, it is necessary to improve the infrastructure of the trails, control the carrying capacity, hire tour guides and issues related to birdwatching for greater competitiveness in the future.
